As If We Do Not Have Enough To Do....

We are having a wedding at our house Friday. I got a call last night asking when Mark's next off day is. Turns out my sister and her fiance were going to go to the courthouse yesterday to get married. That killed my mother. She told them since Mark was off they should come to our house for a small ceremony. Wow, that would be even more surprising than answering a knock and finding a Jehovah's Witness on the other side of my door. (We live in the pastorium of a Baptist church)

So they decided they would call and see if he had another off day soon. That would be Friday. So I have a few days to get ready for a wedding. Oh, and I am making a wedding cake for the first time. Can you hear my nerves rattling? They did not ask for this, but I am thinking about doing a few finger foods, to. Nothing elaborate. Just simple. Maybe a tray of cheeses and snowflake-shaped Ritz crackers, some cocktail wieners in barbecue sauce, that sort of thing. I need to take down our maps and timelines and maps from the kitchen. Not that I am embarrassed to let everyone see what the boys have been learning, but who wants that in their wedding photos?

I am also doing a full-out deep cleaning of the house. I can not remember the last time I vacuumed under the couch and love seat cushions. (I do remove them periodically and take out the legos and such that find their way there-just not an actual vacuuming). My turkey spilled some juice in the oven Thanksgiving so now if I turn it on it smells. I meant to get some baking soda at Wal-Mart, but forgot. So now I have to make a trip just for that purpose. Who wants wedding cake that tastes like a funky oven???

To accommodate all of this I think we are only going to do half-days of school this week. We were planning to take three weeks off for Christmas vacation, I guess we can cut it down to two. It was hard enough to get anything done yesterday after having one week off for Thanksgiving. Who knows how long it would take us to recover from three???

So, that's what is going on here in my world. I think my floor is just about dry so I had better get back to work. Bye for now!!!

So how are wedding plans going? I hope that you are planning to post plenty of pics of Amanda, your family, and the cake (I am a cake decorating fool!).

So far, so good. If the guest list keeps growing I am going to trump the bride's wishes and the wedding is taking place at church. (The church is next door after all.) I made a practice cake last night. It turned out okay. Our family has enjoyed eating it. I will post as many pictures as I can take.
